The Origin of Santa Claus

The Origin of Santa Claus

A. Nicholas was born in Parara, Turkey in 270 CE and later became Bishop of Myra.  He died in 345 CE on December 6th.  He was only named a saint in the 19th century.

B. Nicholas was among the most senior bishops who convened the Council of Nicaea in 325 CE and created the New Testament.  The text they produced portrayed Jews as “the children of the devil” who sentenced Jesus to death.

C. In 1087, a group of sailors who idolized Nicholas moved his bones from Turkey to a sanctuary in Bari, Italy.  There Nicholas supplanted a female boon-giving deity called The Grandmother, or Pasqua Epiphania, who used to fill the children's stockings with her gifts.  The Grandmother was ousted from her shrine at Bari, which became the center of the Nicholas cult.  Members of this group gave each other gifts during a pageant they conducted annually on the anniversary of Nicholas’ death, December 6.

D. The Nicholas cult spread north until it was adopted by German and Celtic pagans.  These groups worshiped a pantheon led by Woden –their chief god and the father of Thor, Balder, and Tiw.  Woden had a long, white beard and rode a horse through the heavens one evening each Autumn.  When Nicholas merged with Woden, he shed his Mediterranean appearance, grew a beard, mounted a flying horse, rescheduled his flight for December, and donned heavy winter clothing.

E. In a bid for pagan adherents in Northern Europe, the Catholic Church adopted the Nicholas cult and taught that he did (and they should) distribute gifts on December 25th instead of December 6th.In 1809, the novelist Washington Irving (most famous his The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Rip Van Winkle) wrote a satire of Dutch culture entitled Knickerbocker History.  The satire refers several times to the white bearded, flying-horse riding Saint Nicholas using his Dutch name, Santa Claus.

F. Dr. Clement Moore, a professor at Union Seminary, read Knickerbocker History, and in 1822 he published a poem based on the character Santa Claus: “Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.  The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in the hope that Saint Nicholas soon would be there…”  Moore innovated by portraying a Santa with eight reindeer who descended through chimneys.

G. The Bavarian illustrator Thomas Nast almost completed the modern picture of Santa Claus.  From 1862 through 1886, based on Moore’s poem, Nast drew more than 2,200 cartoon images of Santa for Harper’s Weekly.  Before Nast, Saint Nicholas had been pictured as everything from a stern looking bishop to a gnome-like figure in a frock.  Nast also gave Santa a home at the North Pole, his workshop filled with elves, and his list of the good and bad children of the world.  All Santa was missing was his red outfit.

H. In 1931, the Coca Cola Corporation contracted the Swedish commercial artist Haddon Sundblom to create a coke-drinking Santa.  Sundblom modeled his Santa on his friend Lou Prentice, chosen for his cheerful, chubby face.  The corporation insisted that Santa’s fur-trimmed suit be bright, Coca Cola red.  And Santa was born – a blend of Christian crusader, pagan god, and commercial idol.

Well Guys this is all i know.if you know anything else do send me your message.

Season to be Merry..

Santa Claus is coming to town.

Christmas is synonymous with the giving  of gifts. How did this tradition begin? Some say ,that it began with the birth of Christ. We had heard of three
Kings who traveled through  through many lands and kingdoms to come and worship  and rejoice in the birth of Christ. They brought with them gifts of frankincense, gold, myrrh. These gifts were rare and precious and symbolic of the life that the Messiah would lead. The gold represented honour,                          frankincense divinity and myrrh to acknowledge the human suffering he would experience.

Man in red.

In the fourth century, there is the legend of St.Nickolas,a christian Bishop who was generous and loved giving gifts to children because he felt that they needed to have good memories of their childhood.

Then there is the ever famous Santa Claus. It is believed that he brings gifts to children who have been good through the year.Santa can trace his history to the dutch sinterklaas. Legend has it that Santa lives in North Pole and has a large number of elves who works in his Workshop making wonderful gifts that  can given to children around the globe in Christmas time. Supposedly  he travels on a sleigh with nine flying reindeer(originally there were only eight).

Season to be merry

This is the season of goodwill and peace, of joy  and love.A time to rejoice on the good things we enjoy every day. December 25, is Christmas day.

Merry Christmas

Hi,Guys,I am here to tell you How to put post under a page in Blogger.

Luckily it's easy to  set up Blog so that it looks like your posts are on different pages.

To set up your blog, follow these steps:-

1.Categorize your post by adding  labels to them

2.Make "Pages-look-a-like" menu-bar

a) According to me the easiest way is with a  labels gadget :-

Use the usual "add-a gadget" to put a labels gadget into the spot where you put pages gadget .If you have some labels then you need not put the "pages".

b) With a linked-list gadget :-

Use the usual "add-a-gadget"  to put a link-list gadget  where you would put the pages gadget.Add a link to the list for each label that you want a"page".The HTML to use for each label value is

http://YOUR-BLOGS-URL/Search/Label/the-label-name

c) With a pages gadget :-

Use the usual "add-a-gadget" to put a pages gadget into the menu bar area.Use label-links described above the linked-list gadget options.

3. If  you don't want all post on your "Home page" was well as the topic pages, set your home page to  shows zero posts,by setting "Number of post on main:"=0 on:

Post-Dec-2012-Blogger(aka the new interface) layout -> Blog parts(edit),
Pre-Dec-2012-Blogger(aka the new interface) Design->page element-> Blog posts (edit)

Oh,mighty mountains

December 11 is the International Mountain Day.It is a day to create awareness about the importance of mountains to life .The theme for this year's is food security in mountains.

Globe is meant to represent the Earth, right guys. But does it? Hardly

It doesn't represent Earth's shape at all-Earth is an 'oblate spheroid'.But Globe represents a round ball where land and water is there with its primary colors. The globe is also super smooth but is the earth ! NO.In earth there is plains, plateaus, valleys and, of course, Mountains.

In Indian  culture,Mountains have been honoured.they have a lot of histories in them and Histories yet to be discovered.Well, geologically speaking, they are not so old.

INTERESTING FACTS

Earth is made up of three layers. The outer most crust ,under which are the mantle, outer core, and the inner core. The mantle is 'Molten Rock'which is thick and gooey and always moving in all directions.

The crust is made up of plates which are slipping and sliding on this gooey stuff .

This is where Mountains come  from.
Mountains affect the climate of the regions they are situated in.For example,if the Himalayas are not there, many parts of India would go so colder due to the northeast monsoon winds.

FIVE TYPES
  • Magma (Molten rock from mantle)pushes up through the crust, and causes the crust to erupt,(e.g:Mt. Pinatubo, philippines)leading to the formation of  Volcanic mountains.
  • In some places, magma's pressure pushes up the Earth's crust but doesn't erupt, leading to the formation of Dome mountains.(e.g Half Dome in California's Sierra Nevada).
  • Sometimes the plates of the crust ("tectonics plates") collide and the crust deteriorate to form  fold mountains.
  • When large areas of plateaus are eroded by rivers, plateau mountains are formed.
  • Fault-block mountains emerge when boundaries between plates cause a block of land to rise high or fall low.(e.g: Harz mountains,Germany)
Today,to visit Inca civilizations, you will have to travel by train at dizzying height. The next time you eat "French"Fries, say "Thank You" to the ancient Incas of the Andes.

India-ah

1.Sanskrit is considered as the mother of all higher languages.

2.Sanskrit is the most suitable language for Computer Software.

3.The first six Moghul Emperors of India ruled in an unbroken succession from father to son for almost two hundred years, from 1526 to 1707.

4.The place value system and the decimal system were developed in 100 B.C in India.

5.Until 1896,India was the only source for diamonds to the world.

Why is Burj Al Arab extraordinary?

The Burj  Al Arab,a luxury hotel in Dubai,is an astonishing structure. The architect,Tom Wright ,was asked to construct a building that would be iconic of Dubai. It resembles the billowing sail of an Arab sailing ship. The sail is a huge expanse of specially produced fiber glass that has been coated with Teflon,to protect it from the weather.

it is the fourth tallest hotel in the world. Burj Al Arab stands on an artificial island 280 m (920 ft) from Jumeirah beach and is connected to the mainland by a private curving bridge. Sometimes referred to as "the world's only seven-Star hotel".

Burj Al Arab was designed by architect Tom Wright of WS Atkins PLC. The design and construction were managed by Canadian engineer Rick Gregory also of WS Atkins. Construction of the Island began in 1994. It was built to resemble the sail of a dhow, a type of Arabian vessel. Two "wings" spread in a V to form a vast "mast", while the space between them is enclosed in a massive atrium. The architect Tom Wright said "The client wanted a building that would become an iconic or symbolic statement for Dubai; this is very similar to Sydney with its Opera HouseLondon with Big Ben, or Paris with the Eiffel Tower. It needed to be a building that would become synonymous with the name of the country."

Why is an MP 3 file called so?

MP 3 is short for MPEG Audio Layer 3.MPEG is the short form for Moving Picture Experts Group, which  developed a compression system used for audio data.Uncompressed audio files are too large. The MP 3 format is a compression system for audio files like musics, talks, etc

Its reduces the number of bytes in a song without affecting the quality of the song,so the computer takes less space. The aim of MPEG-3 or MP 3 is to compress a song by the factor of 10 to 14 without clearly affecting its sound quality

Mp 3 or Mp 4 sounds similar, but they are rather different.MPEG-4 is a media container format used to store media of many types on a computer.

IT training:iPad Video Lesson Offer

What was the first thing you looked for when you opened your iPad box? Were you like me… surprised and disappointed that there was no instruction manual in there? I thought it was a mistake and the Apple factory forgot to pack my slick glossy full-color instruction book.
Apple’s whole model is “ease of use”. The statement they tried to make was that you don’t even need a manual. And, maybe that’s true if you’re just going to use your iPad as an overpriced email checker. But, it’s not just a giant iPhone. You want to get more out of your iPad. You want to unlock it’s full potential.
But unfortunately, if no one actually shows you some of the iPad’s less-obvious tricks and tips, you’ll probably never discover them on your own. And, that is your iPad’s one BIG flaw.

--->Let A Super-Geek Show You the Way<---

Don’t you secretly wish you had some super-geek friend who bought his iPad the day it came out? He could come over your house and show you how to do all the coolest stuff. Well, I’m that geek friend! I’ve recorded video lessons for you that cover every single feature and benefit of your iPad.
How many times have you said to yourself, I haven’t used that feature yet. But, I’m going to learn someday soon. Well, today is that day.

--->In Just 11 Minutes a Day<---

You can watch your iPad Video Lessons at your own convenience. If you just watch 11 minutes a day during your ritual cup of coffee, you’ll quickly and easily gain an understanding of your iPad.
Plus, I’ll show you untapped features that you would never even think to Google-search.
Admit to yourself that you’ve already struggled a bit figuring out some stuff on your iPad. I know I did at first too. I spent month and months reading, experimenting, searching online, and talking to other iPad owners. Sometimes, I had to throw my hands up in frustration. Now, I can save you all that time by quickly and visually showing you how to do EVERYTHING you want to do with your iPad
